Josie Osborne - Bio

Josie OsborneBorn in Fairbanks, Alaska, and the daughter of a painter and an architect, Josie Osborne received degrees in Art History and Criticism (BS) and Drawing & Painting (BFA) from University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 1989. She worked and exhibited her paintings and prints for five years before returning to University of Wisconsin - Madison for her MFA in printmaking. Since completion of her graduate work in 1998 she has worked at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), teaching part-time in MIAD's degree program and holding a full-time position as MIAD Director of Outreach. She has continued to exhibit her artwork regionally.

Osborne's recent work combines printed images with whimsical assemblage box constructions. Her work has often been inspired by poetry, memory and the space that exists between things.

Select exhibitions include: La Lettre and The Word (invitational group show) at the Walker's Point Center for the Arts, MIAD Faculty Exhibition at Frederick Layton Gallery, Treasures at the John Michael Kohler Art Center/Art Space Gallery, Then and Now at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Union Art Gallery, Josie Osborne, MFA Thesis Exhibition, Humphrey Art Center, Caroll College, Duet, A Show of Visual Collaborations at Commonwealth Gallery, Madison, and Member's Show Bakehouse Art Complex while a studio resident in Miami, Florida.

Her work has also been included in several literary journals, including The Cream City Review, Calyx Journal, and the Madison Review.
